About Us

Introducing WisdenAuction.com

Dear Member,

This is just a short note to let you know about our website   www.wisdenauction.com (established in September 2008) and our sister site of www.wisdens.org. (Established in 2005).

In 2008 we set ourselves up as there was a lack of trust in the Wisden market, especially on online auction sites where descriptions of Wisdens were not as they should have been (some too brief, others just incorrect)  and bidding patterns did not seem to be above board in some cases. After being disappointed for the umpteenth time it was about time we did something about it and with that inspiration and in accordance with the wisdens.org catalogue , wisdenauction.com was born. In 2013 We made it into the 150th Edition of Wisden see Pages 49/50 and then in 2023.

In 2008 on this very page we wrote "Hopefully, with its custom built interface, wisdenauction.com can address many of these matters and rebuild a trustworthy on-line Wisden trading environment." and now in 2015 I believe we have come some distance in having a trustworthy Wisden market.

We pride ourselves in long descriptions, pointing out  defects, adding as many pictures as possible and now with video we have all mediums on the case.

The most important point is that this site is built for the Wisden community and not as a revenue generator, there is a fee to sell but this is in place just to keep the website going, there is no buyers commission, ever. This is still correct over a decade on.

The top 10 features that should appeal to all avid Wisden collectors/sellers are:

1)   Easy to understand categories – The Year then the Type of Book.

2)   Custom built Wisden specific fields that are fully searchable – for example on listing a 1950s Hardback, you will be asked about the spine gilt and the hinges   but for a 1950s linen cloth these fields are replaced by the bowing to the spine or the quality of the covers. Looking for a 1965 with a mint DJ – you can now search for specifically for this!

3)   A user friendly webpage that is easy to navigate and easy on the eye.

4)   No fee for buyers when buying a book and membership is free & the ability to list a Wisden on the site for free, with a specific end date, including 25 pictures. (final value fee applies). Reserves are also currently free but must be fair. (The number of pictures has risen from 10 to 25 since we started).

5)   Sniper control is installed – this prevents people piping you to an item at the last minute and should stop all the action being towards the end of the sale.

6)   All lots are reviewed by Wisden collectors.

7)   New users and bidding patterns will constantly be reviewed giving buyers and sellers piece of mind, generating a shill free site.

8)   All details are held on our secure, encrypted server.

9)   Help available any step of the way,

10) Registration is quick and easy and takes less than a minute.

Since 2008 we have added...

      11) More custom fields to best describe Wisdens (e.g. does it have a bat book mark - and how much remains?)

      12) Our YouTube channel to see books live.

      13) Live chat manned when we are at our desks.

      14) Twice a week newsletter to keep members informed of cricket and Wisden news.

In 2015 we purchased WisdenShop.Com and in 2019 we purchased the remaining stock from Willows Publishing. In 2024 we redesigned the website using the latest technology and to make the site mobile/tablet friendly. All comments are welcome as this site is built with buyers and sellers in mind.

Built by Wisden Collectors for Wisden Collectors.

Happy Collecting!.

Cheers

Chris
