Offered for sale here is THE cRICKET cHRONICLE FOR THE SEASON 1863 by Captain W Bayly published in 1864 asnd in VERY GOOD condition. 514 pages. This almanack appeared in the same year as the first Wisden but despite the statement on the title page that it was "to be continued annually" this proved to be the only year of publication - a great shame as it provided far more comprehensive coverage of the cricket season than any of the early Wisden.The book is packed with score cards and match reports of matches played in 1863 not just in England but also overseas. The book has been rebound in green cloth with the original cloth covers and spine laid down to it. The title page and page 497/8 are in facsimile but otherwise the book is complete and original and in very good condition. The book was formally owned by the MCC and has their bookplate to the front pastedown. The last copy I had sold for £1250 but this one is offered at a reduced price to reflect the two facsimile pages. A nice copy and very scarce Postage in the UK is by 1st class recorded delivery.
